Next Meeting with Chrissy.

I am planning on meeting with Chrissy either this week or early next week to discuss my next 'job'.

Assignment Complete.

YAY I have finally finished the first "assignment" / job given to me by Chrissy. This morning I sent the finished and final copy of the flyer/poster to Chrissy via email :-) Chrissy was really happy with the work I had done and was VERY pleased with the final outcome of both the competition logo and flyer/poster.

Chrissy took it to the printers and handed them out today - finger's crossed people liked them and it attracts lots of people to the competition. :-)

Here's the final copy of the flyer/poster;

Feedback for Flyer & Competition Logo

On Friday (31/07/09), I met with Chrissy to go through the designs I had come up with for both the Flyer/Poster and Logo for the Wednesday Night Competition.

Chrissy was really happy with the work I had done (YAY) and just had a few changes to make to the design;
- Could I move the North Harbour Volleyball Logo out of the black area?

I totally agreed with her and said I could work with the design to fit the logo into another area of the flyer/poster.

Chrissy and I then discussed the logo work I had done. She was much happier with the new layout I had come up with, but didn't particularly like the design of the volleyball I had made, so asked if I could just replace the one I had made, with the North Harbour Volleyball Logo ball. Due to this competition being seperate, I really wanted the logo to have it's own identity, therefore I wanted to give the competition it's own "ball" design. During our meeting, I played with a few textures, applying them to the ball I had drawn myself. I then showed Chrissy all of the new designs I had come up with and YAY she liked them better! We decided to go with one of the new volleyball designs that I had come up with. I then inserted this ball design into the logo.

New Layout with North Harbour Volleyball's ball design.

New Layout and new ball.

Experimenting with applying different textures to the ball design:

Final Logo: COLOUR CMYK

Final Logo: GRAYSCALE

Chrissy (and myself) really enjoyed going through this process with me and said she enjoyed watching me work on the computer :-) I really liked the fact that we were able to resolve the problem there and then, meaning that I was able to complete the logo for her straight away.

From our meeting all I had to do was work on a few corrections for the flyer, which she needed by the end of Saturday.

1st Project.

Assignment; Re-design advertisement flyer for Harbour Volleyball League (Wednesday Night Social Competition).

Due to time constraints and budget, Chrissy herself has been previously designing the flyers. She decided it was time for an update, as with this competition coming into season again this year, they are really want to campaign and push for new teams to join up, to create a bigger league and competition.

Before beginning the design, I went over the previous flyer with Chrissy and picked her brain about what she liked and what she didn't like about it. Wanting a 'fresh' look, Chrissy gave me the thumbs up to get creative, however remembering that all the information from the previous flyer had to be the same. We also discussed the priting options and due to a small budget and wanting to get a quick turn around, the flyers and printed in black and white on A4.

>>Gathering this information before I started designing was really helpful, as it made me very aware of each of my design decisions. For example; Even though I have been asked to produce the flyer in colour in the digital file, I need to make sure that the colours I choose to work with also work well together in grayscale. Another important aspect to remember is the layout and font. This flyer has to be attractive, yet easy to read and obtain all the information from.

I was also given permission to play around with the current event logo. It was stressed to me that it wasn't the number 1 pirority, but if I couldn't resist and thought I had enough time, to draw up some concept ideas for show and tell. :-)

Here is my first set of works - these have been sent to Chrissy. We are meeting in the morning to look over and discuss my work. I'm really looking forward to what she has to say.

FLYER;

Past:

Upcoming Flyer; Ideas...

They are in the "developmental" stage which is why they look so similar. I came up with the basic background layout design and then played with putting the information in different places to show Chrissy different options (to pick from?). Some work; some don't work as well...

Note; A generally big space or a white rectangle on the Flyer represents where the logo would be.

The last one (with the white background) is the one I particulary like the best. :-)

Existing Logo;

What I'm Doing.

After my last meeting with Chrissy, she was able to put together an events calender for me, complied of the different events she would like me to work on. As discussed last time, each event listed has been labeled in a priority list; due to either there date or importance.

(Will post the Calender up shortly - with permission of course!).

The projects I am going to be working on all sound really cool and will incorporate all the different areas I was hoping to cover like logo work, poster advertisements, flyers and t-shirts. I'm really looking forward to each project as some have different target audiences, eg; adults or secondary schools and different arrays of competition from social to competitive. I think this difference will help to continue to challenge me as a designer, as well as challenging my time management and communication levels. I look forward to collabortating with Chrissy for the up and coming projects.

The Brainstorm.

What to do for my project?

I want to work with and create what people consider to be 'Conventional Design' like logo's, stationery and publications, as this is what I am most interested in and believe is where my design strengths are.

>>With this in mind, I choose to put myself out there and approach a friend about collaborating a project together, where I would be the sole designer for all the necessary design needed.

I choose to approach my friend Chrissy Archbold, who is the Head Administrator for the Miarangi Beach Volleyball Centre. Coming into Summer - therefore the prime beach volleyball season, a knew there would be mutiple events coming up, which of course would all need an area of design for assistance eg: posters for advertising. Due to a high interest in the game and playing indoor volleyball myself, I thought this project would be fun, interesting and challenging.

After getting together with Chrissy, we were able to come to a positive arrangement, with her hiring me as there Events Graphic Designer over the next 4 months, to complete an array of design tasks for mutiple sporting events held and organised by the club.

SO EXICITED!!!

The Beginning...

My name's Elizabeth Richards (Liz) and I am currently in my third (and final) year, of completing a Bach' of Graphic Design at AUT.

At present we are working on our Graphic Design Project's aka our end of year exhibitions. I thought it would be handy to start this blog as I think it will be a fun way to help me document my progress, journey's and development that I work through - I'm pretty much keeping an electronic diary for all to see.

Through having to now continue to update this blog, :-) I hope to push myself to continually be producing more and more work (or else this ain't gonna be too pretty).

Finger's crossed it all goes well.
